Why I'm Over Athleisure

Why I'm Over Athleisure

Comfort is the key to confidence. I’ve written about this before, but somewhere in the last fifteen years fashion has gone a bit too far on this front and suddenly people think it’s acceptable to wear yoga pants for any occasion. I don’t dispute the importance of comfort, I keep it in mind with every item I design. It's one reason why I only use silk linings and why each design goes through multiple fittings, including a trial run period where I wear the items before they are produced. Poor design is a huge reason for fashion waste, and there is enough of that going around.

But I’ve grown tired looking like I’m going to yoga 24 hours a day no matter how comfortable it is. I’m not sure if they are related, but I feel like if people dressed a little better these days that it might bring a little civility back especially when it comes to travel. That’s one reason why I created the Carole pants.

Chic Casual Style

Made from a stretch silk charmeuse, only the ultra shiny silky part of charmeuse that your pajamas might be made of is on the inside of these pants. Flipping the fabric keeps the ultra-luxe and silky feel of the charmeuse, but the matte look makes them a little more versatile. So you don’t look like you are wearing your pajamas in public — something I haven’t done since college (something my mother never approved of and still wouldn't today).

The Perfect Vacation Pant

Whether you are looking for something comfortable to wear on the plane or something easy once you get there, if you want to pack light the Carole is definitely the way to go. Summer travel can be tough when it comes to what to wear. It’s always too cold for skirts or dresses on a plane for me, and often jeans can be too hot in the summer once you get off the plane. What I like best about the Carole pant is that they can be your comfy travel wear, if you tend to the cold side style it with layers like a tee shirt and a cardigan or wrap. The style works just as well for evening once you swap your shoes and top for something a little more elevated.

We’ll have a coordinating Marilyn tee out soon, so that if you want a monochrome ensemble for evening once you get to your destination. The simplicity of the cut, the low, wide waistband and wide leg make it easy to style with just about anything. Comfort is key, but so is being chic.
